The 2014 INNOVATE NZ Awards of Excellence ceremony held in Rotorua earlier this month saw Beca take home the Gold Award of Excellence for Christchurch International Airport - Mechanical Services and Artesian Heating and Cooling.

The Integrated Terminal Project is based around the provision of a new terminal with integrated check-in for international and domestic passengers.  The development features a long list of innovative, energy efficient and stand-out features including 12 km of aquatherm blue pipework installed by David Browne Contractors Ltd.

As you all know, aquatherm product is non-metallic, less susceptible to erosion and reduces the quantity of chemical additives to heating and cooling water. It also requires no welding, and therefore hot works permits, so presents reduced fire risks. The low temperature heating water and chilled water systems installed throughout the airport including connections to the chillers and artesian water systems using aquatherm blue.

These engineering awards recognise projects that have an innovative or extraordinary aspect and encourage a high standard of achievement within the engineering industry. Judges consider the technical excellence of the design and execution by evaluating complexity, innovation, depth of technical knowledge, the elegance of the solution, social environmental impacts and the client relationship of each entry.

Congratulations!
